BREAKING: Suspect Arrested for Treating Mohbad Not a Registered Nurse, Nursing Association Affirms

A recent statement from the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Lagos State Council, has refuted claims that a registered nurse was taken into custody in connection with the passing of the renowned singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

POLITICS NIGERIA reported that the organization issued this clarification in a statement on Saturday.

The association disclosed that it conducted preliminary investigations and ascertained that the individual apprehended by the police for providing care to Mohbad was not a registered nurse.

Furthermore, NANNM underlined the significance of professionalism in both the reporting and investigation of Mohbad's demise.

The statement reads, "The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Lagos State Council, expresses its deepest condolences to the family and acquaintances of the late musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, during this trying time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we mourn his tragic passing.

"We fully endorse the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death and call on the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the quest for justice.

"However, we stress the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting this investigation. NANNM is closely monitoring the situation with keen interest. Our preliminary investigations indicate that the individual taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered nurse.

"We emphasize the critical need to verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before classifying them as healthcare professionals."

The statement goes on to clarify the rigorous path to becoming a recognized nurse in Nigeria, emphasizing that there is no place for the term 'Auxiliary Nurse' in the country's healthcare system or its laws. An individual is either a qualified nurse or an unqualified individual performing tasks beyond their competence.

The nursing association further calls upon the investigative authorities and the media to exercise care and accuracy in their reporting during this inquiry, insisting on the correction of any inaccuracies in stories regarding the arrest of a nurse.

The association expressed heartfelt condolences to Mohbad's family and associates and called on relevant authorities to ensure justice prevails.

It is worth noting that concerns were raised by Mohbad's father, Aloba, regarding the alleged injection administered by an auxiliary nurse prior to his son's passing, a matter that continues to generate controversy surrounding the circumstances of his death.
